OPPO Advances Earth Day Sustainability Push with Green Packaging, E-Waste Recycling, and Global Conservation Efforts

Every April 22, Earth Day reminds the world of the shared responsibility to protect the planet and secure a better future for generations to come. For global technology brand OPPO, sustainability is not just a once-a-year conversation, it is becoming part of how innovation is designed, built, and shared with millions of users worldwide.

Serving over 760 million users across more than 90 countries and regions, OPPO continues to integrate sustainability into its core operations. The company has committed to achieving carbon neutrality across all operations by 2050, while steadily introducing greener practices, eco-conscious materials, and community-driven environmental programs.
Smarter Packaging for a Lighter Environmental Footprint
Packaging waste remains a major challenge in the consumer electronics industry, and OPPO is responding with its “3R+1D” framework, Reduction, Recyclability, Reusability, and Degradability.

By shifting product information from printed manuals to digital formats, OPPO significantly reduced paper usage. In 2025 alone, this initiative saved around 110 million A4 sheets, equivalent to approximately 13,000 trees and about 3,500 tons of carbon emissions.

This shift comes at a crucial time, as global paper production reaches hundreds of millions of tons annually, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). At the same time, plastic waste remains a pressing concern highlighted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with millions of tons entering oceans each year.
To help address this, OPPO has started integrating natural biomass materials such as tea residue into packaging. By replacing 10–30% of petroleum-based plastics with these alternatives, the company reduces reliance on virgin plastics while giving new purpose to agricultural waste.

Tackling the Growing Challenge of E-Waste
Electronic waste continues to rise globally, reaching 62 million tons in 2022 and projected to exceed 82 million tons by 2030, according to the United Nations.

OPPO is addressing this through longer-lasting product design and improved recycling systems that encourage users to return old devices for reuse, recycling, or safe disposal. In 2025 alone, while selling approximately 35,300 tons of new devices, OPPO successfully recycled 1,187 tons of used electronics across China and Europe.

Technology That Helps Protect Wildlife and Inspire Youth
Beyond products, OPPO is also using technology to support real-world conservation and education efforts.

In Kenya, OPPO partnered with the Peaceland Foundation and Impact Steps to support wildlife conservation at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Using OPPO Find X9 Series smartphones, researchers are now able to capture detailed images of rhino eye patterns from a distance, helping track and protect endangered rhinos more efficiently.

Meanwhile in India, OPPO collaborated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to launch the Generation Green Initiative. The program mobilized 5,000 interns and over one million young participants, who contributed more than 469,500 volunteer hours and processed over 10,000 kilograms of electronic waste, while building stronger environmental awareness among youth.

A Continuing Commitment to a Greener Future
Guided by its mission, “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO continues to advance sustainability efforts that blend innovation with responsibility. Through greener products, smarter systems, and meaningful global partnerships, the brand aims to empower users and communities to take part in building a more sustainable future. One device, one action, and one step at a time.
