The Huawei Pura 80 Series officially launches in Bangkok, showcasing stunning imaging capabilities, AI smart features, and a bold new design. Here’s a closer look from a firsthand perspective.
I had the chance to witness the official launch of the Huawei Pura 80 Series in Bangkok today, July 22, 2025. Held in a beautiful setting that balanced modern luxury with Huawei’s signature innovation, the event showcased the brand's new flagship imaging phones, the Huawei Pura 80 Pro and Huawei Pura 80 Ultra. It was a straightforward launch with a strong focus on product experience rather than an overly flashy presentation, which I appreciated as someone who values functionality over hype.
At first glance, the new design of the Pura 80 Series really stands out. Huawei calls it the “Dazzling Forward Symbol” design, and it’s inspired by sunray patterns typically seen in fine jewelry or luxury watches. The Pura 80 Ultra especially caught my eye, featuring a distinct golden ring encircling its lens that subtly hints at Huawei’s upscale branding. Meanwhile, the Pura 80 Pro in Glazed Red looked sleek and vibrant without being too loud.
As someone who takes a lot of photos for both content and personal use, the biggest draw for me was the camera system. The Pura 80 Pro’s 1-inch Ultra Lighting Camera performed impressively in low-light demos, offering incredible clarity and detail, even under dim ambient conditions. I found the night mode shots particularly true to life; there was no overexposure or washed-out colors, just natural tones that looked exactly how I remembered them. The Ultra Chroma Camera also stood out by capturing colors with precision, making it ideal for cityscapes and night photography.
The Pura 80 Ultra takes things even further with a new Switchable Dual Telephoto Camera. This allows users to toggle between 3.7x and 10x zoom with clear and sharp results, even at longer distances. From the live demo, the zoomed-in portraits retained a nice background blur without sacrificing detail on the subject, which is not always the case with other flagship phones. It’s clear that Huawei has invested heavily in its XMAGE tech, and in real-world use, the difference is noticeable, especially for content creators or casual users who love to document events and travel.
Another standout feature I tried at the event was the AI Smart Control Button. It's a small but very helpful addition, allowing quick access to commonly used functions like the camera or flashlight. It adapts to your usage preferences and even includes fingerprint recognition for added security. The AI noise cancellation was also impressive during my short call test. It reduced background noise effectively, which could be great when working or taking calls in busy places.
On the performance side, the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra are equipped with a 5170mAh battery and support 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. During the live demo, the device powered up quickly even after heavy usage. That’s a big win for anyone who’s always on the go, like me. You don’t need to worry about running out of juice halfway through your day.
Durability is another area where Huawei made noticeable improvements. The Pura 80 Ultra comes with second-generation Kunlun Glass, which Huawei claims is 16 times more resistant to scratches and 25% more drop-resistant. The glass had a premium feel, but didn’t feel too fragile either. While I wouldn’t recommend testing it by dropping it, the added protection gives some peace of mind for everyday use.
Overall, the Huawei Pura 80 Series feels like a solid evolution of Huawei’s smartphone lineup. It’s a strong choice for mobile photography enthusiasts and anyone looking for a premium phone that balances style, innovation, and performance. Aside from the phones, Huawei also gave a quick teaser of the upcoming HUAWEI MatePad 11.5”, though no pricing or full details were revealed just yet. Still, the preview was promising, and I’m personally excited to see what’s next from their tablet lineup.
Here in the Philippines, Huawei fans won’t have to wait long! The local launch of the Pura 80 Series is set for August 7, 2025. So if you’re planning to upgrade your phone or you're simply curious about Huawei’s latest flagship, this is definitely something to watch out for.
Having experienced it firsthand, I can say the Pura 80 Series isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a thoughtfully designed device that prioritizes user experience, especially when it comes to imaging and intelligent features. Looking forward to spending more time with it and seeing how it performs in real-life settings.
