ZTE expands its Axon 50 lineup with the Axon 50 Standard Edition, featuring a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, 144Hz AMOLED display, 80W fast charging, and triple 50MP cameras.
ZTE has just added a new member to its Axon 50 series with the launch of the Axon 50 Standard Edition in China. This model fills the gap between last year’s Axon 50 Ultra and Axon 50 Lite, offering a balanced mix of performance, design, and everyday usability. At a price point of around $250 (1799 yuan), ZTE is positioning the Axon 50 as a solid choice for users looking for flagship features at a more accessible cost.
At the heart of the Axon 50 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, one of the leading chipsets for premium Android smartphones. Built on TSMC's 4nm process, it clocks up to 3.19GHz and is designed to handle demanding tasks with ease. ZTE pairs this chip with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which means the phone is built for fast performance and smooth multitasking, whether you’re gaming, streaming, or jumping between apps.
One of the standout features is its 6.67-inch AMOLED display. The screen offers a 144Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth, and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, making it not only responsive but also vibrant and color-accurate. With a resolution of 2400×1080, up to 1000 nits brightness, and TĂśV certification for low blue light, it’s easy on the eyes for extended viewing. The display also has a 72.5-degree curve at the edges, giving it a sleek, immersive look.
For photography, the Axon 50 doesn’t hold back. It comes with a triple-camera setup that includes a 64MP main sensor (Sony IMX787 with OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide lens with macro capability, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The phone uses ZTE’s Lightning Capture 3.0 technology to boost shutter speed and improve image quality in motion shots, which is especially useful for snapping fast-moving subjects.
Powering the device is a 5000mAh battery, which supports 80W fast charging. This high-speed charging means less downtime and more time using your phone. ZTE claims that this setup is ideal for all-day use, even for users with heavy workloads or frequent travel.
ZTE also adds a few useful extras that make the Axon 50 more versatile. The phone includes dual-frequency L1+L5 GNSS positioning with support for BeiDou’s latest enhancement system, offering more accurate location services. It comes equipped with 13 antennas to ensure stable connections and includes an IR blaster, allowing it to function as a remote control for various home appliances. The device’s starlight AG glass back not only adds a stylish touch but also increases durability.
The Axon 50 runs on MyOS 12, ZTE’s custom skin based on Android. It offers features like dynamic lock screens that adapt to your activity, customizable widgets, and themed visuals, aiming to provide a personalized and smooth user experience.
The Axon 50 is available now in China through JD.com, offered in a single 12GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration. For those keeping an eye on emerging smartphone trends, the Axon 50 shows how mid-tier pricing can still bring flagship-level performance and features.
In related news, ZTE also launched the U60 Pro, a compact 5G hotspot with a 10,000mAh battery, Wi-Fi 7 support, and NFC. It's clear that ZTE is continuing to build a strong ecosystem of mobile and connected devices.
