Museum Foundation of the Philippines Marks 40 Years with the Launch of "Ang MUSEO" Awards
The Museum Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (MFPI) is celebrating a massive milestone—its 40th anniversary—by launching a first-of-its-kind initiative: Ang MUSEO: Gawad ng Museum Foundation of the Philippines.
For the first time in our country's history, a dedicated recognition program has been established to honor the people and institutions keeping our national memory alive. This isn't just about the major galleries in the capital; it’s a nationwide search to honor regional stewards, university museums, and the dedicated workers who ensure our history remains vibrant and accessible.
Elevating Filipino Heritage
Inspired by international ICOM standards, Ang MUSEO features ten distinct categories, including:
- Gawad sa Natatanging Pamana ng Bayan (Local Museum of the Year)
- Gawad Para sa Institusyong Pang-Edukasyon (Educational Institute Museum of the Year)
- Gawad sa Natatanging Kawani Ng Museo (Museum Worker of the Year)
"The MFPI has always been proud to serve as stewards of connecting Filipinos with their cultural heritage," says MFPI President Danny Jacinto. The goal of Ang MUSEO is to reinforce and honor those who protect national memory and foster a deeper appreciation for history and the arts.
A Nationwide Search for Excellence The official call for entries runs from March 15 to May 15, 2026. Whether it’s a niche local gallery or a large-scale institution, the MFPI is looking to recognize spaces that serve as vibrant centers of learning. Winners will be evaluated by a rigorous two-tier jury of experts and announced at a grand awarding ceremony this October.
From advocating for the National Museum Act of 1998 to supporting crowd-favorites like Art in the Park and the MaArte Fair, the MFPI has spent four decades as a non-profit volunteer force protecting the soul of the nation. Ang MUSEO marks the beginning of a new era of cultural sustainability.
