Xiaomi Watch 5: The "Style Powerhouse" in the Real World
If you caught my initial unboxing over on YouTube/mykesoon, you know I was immediately impressed by the aesthetic. But as a PC and PS5 gamer who usually sticks to the "big screens," a smartwatch has to do more than just look good to stay on my wrist. It has to perform with flagship-level intensity.
After living with the Xiaomi Watch 5 as my daily driver, I’m putting aside the marketing words to give you the real-world breakdown.
The Key Selling Points for me:
  • The Display: A stunning 1.54" AMOLED circular screen with sapphire glass. It’s bright, sharp, and looks like a classic timepiece.
  • The OS: Powered by Wear OS by Google, giving you a smooth, non-laggy experience and access to the full app ecosystem.
  • The Sensor Suite: Advanced health monitoring including heart rate, SpO2, and the new ECG/EMG sensors.
Top 5 Things I Like

  1. "Dial Up Your Style" is a Fact - I’ve reviewed a lot of watches on the blog, and many scream "I’m a fitness tracker." The Xiaomi Watch 5 is different. The stainless steel case and floating bezel design make it a legitimate lifestyle piece. It looks just as good in a business meeting as it does in my gaming setup.
  2. Accuracy that Actually Matters - This is where the Mi Fitness app shines. In my real-world testing, the tracking for Sleep, Heart Rate, and Blood Oxygen (SpO2) was spot on. Even the Blood Pressure (BP) estimations felt consistent with my manual checks. For someone who values data, seeing correct tracking without the "random numbers" some budget brands give is a huge relief.
  3. Vital Health Insights - It’s not just the basics; this watch tracks Stress levels and other vitals that are essential for a quick health check-in. In a high-energy job like content creation and PR, knowing when my stress is spiking is a game-changer.
  4. The "Magic" of Gesture Controls - Xiaomi’s multiple quick gesture controls are actually useful. When I’m mid-shoot or my hands are full, a flick of the wrist to navigate or take a call feels like the future.
  5. Seamless Wear OS Integration - Because it runs Wear OS, everything is fast. Google Maps on the wrist is a lifesaver when I’m navigating the streets of BGC or Makati, and the dual-chip architecture (Snapdragon W5) ensures there’s zero "jank" in the UI.
2 Things to Improve On

  1. The "24/7" Battery Trade-off - Here’s the reality: if you turn on all the flagship health features 24/7 (High-precision sleep, SpO2, and Stress monitoring), the battery takes a hit. While the box says up to 6 days, my heavy real-world usage—with everything pinned to the max—lasted me around 4 days. I hope Xiaomi can optimize this in future updates because those features are too good to keep turned off.
  2. Missing "Access Card" NFC Functionality One feature I was really looking forward to was the ability to copy my office or condo access cards directly into the watch. While it has NFC for Google Wallet payments, the global version doesn't currently support card-cloning for access. Having to still pull out my physical card when I have a "Style Powerhouse" on my wrist feels like a missed opportunity for true convenience.
The Verdict: Is It Worth It?

The Xiaomi Watch 5 is easily one of the most balanced smartwatches I’ve tested. It solves the "ugly tech" problem by being a premium lifestyle piece, and the accuracy of the Mi Fitness data makes it a legitimate health tool. If you can handle charging it every 4-5 days to keep those vital health features running, it’s a powerhouse you won’t want to take off.
