CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple has unveiled the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, pushing the limits of performance, AI capability, and everyday productivity in what many consider the world’s best pro laptop. Built for developers, creatives, professionals, and power users, the new MacBook Pro delivers exceptional speed, smarter workflows, and a seamless experience whether at the office, studio, or working remotely.

With the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the MacBook Pro introduces a new CPU featuring what Apple calls the world’s fastest CPU core, paired with a next-generation GPU that includes a Neural Accelerator in every core. Together with higher unified memory bandwidth, these upgrades deliver up to 4x faster AI performance than the previous generation and up to 8x faster than M1 models. This means users can run advanced AI models, process large creative projects, and explore next-generation tools directly on their laptops.
The new MacBook Pro also introduces up to 2x faster SSD speeds and higher starting storage capacities: 1TB for M5 Pro models and 2TB for M5 Max models, making it easier to handle massive files like 8K video footage, complex datasets, or extensive creative libraries. Apple also adds its new N1 wireless networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for faster and more reliable connections.

“MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max redefines what’s possible on a pro laptop, now up to four times faster than the previous generation,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With Neural Accelerators in the GPU, professionals can run advanced AI models directly on the device and unlock capabilities no other laptop can match, all while maintaining exceptional battery life.”

Power Built for Modern Workflows
The M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are built using Apple’s new Fusion Architecture, combining two dies into a single system-on-a-chip design for improved performance and efficiency. Both chips feature an up to 18-core CPU with six super cores and 12 performance cores optimized for demanding multithreaded workloads.

For professionals handling heavy tasks like software developers optimizing algorithms or photographers editing massive libraries, the M5 Pro delivers powerful performance. Meanwhile, the M5 Max is designed for those pushing the limits, including engineers running simulations or VFX artists rendering complex scenes.

The chips also deliver a significant leap in graphics performance, offering up to 50% faster GPU performance than M4 Pro and M4 Max, enabling real-time 3D work and smoother editing of visual effects and motion graphics.

Faster AI, Graphics, and Creative Performance
The new MacBook Pro is designed with AI-driven workflows in mind. M5 Pro and M5 Max can deliver up to 4x faster large language model (LLM) prompt processing compared to the previous generation and up to 8x faster AI image generation compared to M1 models. For creators and developers, this unlocks new possibilities such as local AI model training, AI-powered video editing, and automated design workflows.

The chips also support higher unified memory bandwidth. M5 Pro can support up to 64GB of unified memory with up to 307GB/s bandwidth, while M5 Max can support up to 128GB with up to 614GB/s bandwidth, allowing users to handle large AI models, high-resolution media projects, and demanding multitasking.

Faster Storage and More Room for Creativity
MacBook Pro now delivers up to 2x faster storage performance, reaching speeds of up to 14.5GB/s, which accelerates tasks such as working with 4K and 8K video files or managing large datasets. With higher default storage: 1TB for M5 Pro and 2TB for M5 Max, users can spend less time worrying about space and more time focusing on their projects.

Built for Everyday Professionals
For those upgrading from older Mac models, the new MacBook Pro brings several meaningful improvements. Users moving from M1 systems can experience up to 8x faster AI performance, while those upgrading from Intel-based MacBooks can enjoy dramatically improved battery life and efficiency.

The new MacBook Pro delivers up to 24 hours of battery life, allowing professionals to work throughout the day without constantly reaching for a charger. With fast charging, users can reach 50% battery in just 30 minutes using a compatible USB-C power adapter.
The laptop also features Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits peak HDR brightness, a nano-texture option, and support for immersive content. Connectivity remains robust with Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI with up to 8K resolution, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging.

Users will also benefit from a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio, making the MacBook Pro equally capable for virtual meetings, content creation, or entertainment.

Enhanced by macOS Tahoe
The new MacBook Pro runs macOS Tahoe, introducing powerful productivity tools and deeper AI integration. Spotlight has been upgraded to help users find apps, files, and actions faster, while Apple Intelligence adds smarter automation and privacy-focused AI capabilities.

Features like Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone allow users to communicate across languages easily, while improved Continuity features enable seamless integration with nearby iPhones. The operating system also introduces a refreshed design with Liquid Glass, customizable folders, widgets, and a redesigned Control Center.

Designed with the Environment in Mind
Apple continues its commitment to sustainability with the new MacBook Pro. The device contains 45% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery. Manufacturing also uses 50% renewable electricity across the supply chain, supporting Apple’s goal of achieving full carbon neutrality by 2030.
