The Insta360 X5 just got a major firmware update, offering better low-light performance, longer recording time, and smarter stabilization. Here's everything new with the upgraded action camera that’s built for creators on the move.
If you're a content creator, vlogger, or someone who just loves capturing everything around them, there's some good news: Insta360’s X5 just got even better. Less than three months after its initial launch, the brand has released a major firmware update that makes this flagship 360 action cam smarter, more powerful, and longer-lasting.
One of the biggest changes comes in the form of AdaptiveTone, a new feature that addresses a common issue in 360 cameras: exposure balancing. Shooting in bright light on one side and shadow on the other used to result in awkward lighting transitions, but AdaptiveTone now records more lighting data from each lens and adjusts the final image during post-processing. The result? Videos and photos that look more natural, even in mixed lighting.
For those who often shoot in low light, there's something to look forward to as well. PureVideo mode, which uses AI and dynamic range optimization to reduce noise, is now available even when using just one lens. This is great for vloggers who want to record cleaner, clearer content without needing perfect lighting. And if you're shooting in broad daylight and want that soft cinematic blur, Insta360 has also released a new set of neutral density filters (ND16, ND32, and ND64). These clip-on filters are designed for the X5’s removable lens system and retail at $59.99 each.
Battery life has also seen a major improvement. With the new Endurance Mode, the X5 can now record 8K video at 30 frames per second for nearly two hours straight. Drop the resolution to 5.7K at 24 fps, and you can keep rolling for almost 3.5 hours. If that’s still not enough, you can now buy a bigger 2,800mAh Ultra Battery for $49.99, which gives around 17% more runtime compared to the standard battery. This is especially helpful for long shoots, travel vlogs, or motorsport content where charging isn’t always an option.
Speaking of motorsports, Insta360 hasn’t forgotten its fans on two wheels. A new feature called Immersive Shake Stabilization keeps your footage smooth during bumpy rides, but still preserves just enough shake to give that thrilling sense of speed. The X5 can also now automatically blur license plates to help protect privacy when uploading public content. And to make recording while riding even more convenient, Insta360 has launched a GPS remote priced at $159.99. It doubles as a wrist-worn or handlebar-mounted controller, complete with a live preview screen, GPS tracking, and a built-in mic with a windscreen for better audio.
There’s also a new wireless remote that looks like a smartwatch and can be worn on your wrist. This gives users the ability to view live previews, record with GPS data, and capture audio through its onboard mic, ideal for solo content creators who need full control on the go.
Insta360’s continuous updates prove that action cameras are no longer just about rugged hardware. With smart software features, creator-focused accessories, and thoughtful upgrades, the X5 is shaping up to be one of the most versatile tools in a creator’s kit. Whether you’re shooting on the road, at home, or on the trail, the new Insta360 X5 is built to keep up with your story.
