Campaign Promise Fulfilled: CHED and Bam Aquino Launch ₱500-Million AHEAD Grant for Healthcare Students
MANILA, PHILIPPINES — For thousands of nursing and allied health sciences students in the Philippines, the road to graduation is paved with intense emotional, physical, and financial hurdles. Beyond tuition fees, the mandatory Related Learning Experience (RLE) and clinical internships often stretch household budgets to their absolute limits. Recognizing these severe pressures, a crucial legislative milestone has officially transitioned into a live relief program.
Fulfilling a core campaign promise made to future healthcare professionals, Senator Bam Aquino, in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), has formally launched the AHEAD (Allied Health Experiential Assistance for Deserving Students) grant.
Backed by a massive ₱500 million allocation secured in the 2026 national budget, this initiative is designed to alleviate the financial anxiety of student clinicians. It serves as a structural reminder that providing peace of mind to our youth is the ultimate way to help them focus on their training.
Direct Subsidies for 19,000 Future Medical Professionals
The newly minted AHEAD grant targets the exact point of financial friction for graduating medical students: their required on-the-job clinical training. Under the swift implementation guidelines rolled out by CHED, approximately 19,000 qualified allied health science students across the country stand to receive a substantial, one-time ₱25,000 RLE subsidy.
🩺 THE CHED-AHEAD GRANT AT A GLANCE
- Total Funding Pool: ₱500 Million secured in the 2026 national budget.
- Direct Beneficiaries: 19,000 qualified allied health science students nationwide.
- Financial Relief: A one-time ₱25,000 cash subsidy per student.
- Core Purpose: To cover mandatory Related Learning Experience (RLE) & internship fees.
"Malaking ginhawa ito para sa ating mga nursing at allied health students na matagal ding nag-alala kung paano mababayaran ang kanilang Related Learning Experience (RLE) at clinical internship fees habang nagsasanay para makapaglingkod sa bayan," Aquino announced in a recent statement.
Digital Transformation of Student Assistance
The formal launch of the program was marked by immediate, real-time utility. During the event, ten nursing students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar) participated in a ceremonial enrollment, successfully testing CHED's newly developed online application portal.
Aquino expressed deep gratitude to CHED, under the leadership of Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis, for swiftly finalizing the administrative guidelines and creating a seamless, accessible portal for the student populace. By cutting down bureaucratic red tape and putting the application process entirely online, the program ensures that financial aid is just a few clicks away from the students who need it most.
As the country continues to strengthen its local medical infrastructure, structural safety nets like the AHEAD grant guarantee that the next generation of Filipino healthcare heroes can pursue their dreams with confidence and financial stability.
