HONOR confirms a 64MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and macro support on the upcoming Magic V5 foldable phone. Here's what to expect from the July 2 launch.
HONOR is all set to unveil its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Magic V5, on July 2 in China. In the lead-up to the event, the company has been dropping teasers, and its latest one clears up the mystery around the telephoto camera on the rear. Until now, there had been a lot of speculation around whether the telephoto sensor would be 50MP or 64MP. HONOR has now officially confirmed that the Magic V5 will feature a 64MP periscope telephoto lens.
This telephoto camera will also come with optical image stabilization (OIS), which helps reduce motion blur in photos and videos, and adds clarity, especially when zooming in on distant subjects. What's even more exciting is the support for telephoto macro photography, allowing users to take detailed close-up shots without needing to get too close to the subject, something especially useful in creative and lifestyle photography.
The Magic V5 is shaping up to be a premium foldable device, continuing HONOR's push into the foldable phone space. While the full spec sheet hasn't been released yet, earlier teasers and leaks suggest some impressive hardware. The phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset (also known as Snapdragon 8 Elite), which is Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor designed for top-tier performance and efficiency.
The device will reportedly feature a 7.95-inch inner folding display for immersive viewing, paired with a 6.45-inch outer cover screen for one-handed use. Despite the large display sizes, the phone is said to maintain a slim profile, measuring just 8.8mm thick when folded, which could make it one of the sleekest foldables on the market.
In terms of battery, the Magic V5 is rumored to pack a 6,100 mAh battery, supporting 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, ensuring it stays powered up throughout the day with minimal downtime.
For photography enthusiasts, the camera setup is another highlight. Alongside the confirmed 64MP periscope camera, the device is expected to feature two additional 50MP sensors – one likely being the main sensor and the other an ultrawide lens. Selfie fans aren’t left out either, as the phone will reportedly come with dual 20MP front cameras, giving users flexibility whether they're using the inner or outer display.
With these confirmed and rumored specs, the HONOR Magic V5 is positioning itself as a strong contender in the foldable phone market, offering a combination of high-end hardware, innovative photography features, and a sleek design.
As we wait for the official launch, it’s clear that HONOR is focused on pushing the boundaries of mobile photography and foldable design. Stay tuned for full details once the Magic V5 is unveiled on July 2 and if the Magic V5 will arrive here in the Philippines.
