Shop Guam expands into year-long campaign

New features and cutting-edge technology to improve GVB signature event
The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is proud to announce the return of Shop Guam. In its 7th year, the GVB signature event will evolve into a year-long campaign identified by four promotional seasons – fall, winter, spring, and summer. The Bureau is now seeking to partner with GVB members and businesses interested in developing special offers that will be featured in the free state-of-the-art Shop Guam app.

“Combining progressive technology with incredible retail offers, Shop Guam gives visitors the chance to enjoy Guam as a world-class shopping destination, while also experiencing all that our island paradise has to offer,” said GVB President and CEO Nathan Denight. “We’re very excited the Shop Guam campaign is now year-long and we encourage our local businesses to take advantage of our mobile app and develop deals that will attract local shoppers and visitors to their establishments.”

The free interactive Shop Guam mobile app is available in six different languages and provides shoppers with a multitude of great offers, including shopping, dining, optional tours, tourism services, cultural products and experiences. It also serves as a visitor guide and gives travelers the opportunity to immerse themselves in Guam’s community life through its local events feature.

Winter e-Festival special from other promotional seasons The winter promotional season will heavily feature the Shop Guam campaign’s e-Festival from November 10, 2018 through February 10, 2019. The winter e-Festival will have exclusive features that won’t be offered in the other seasons. One of those features is the use of Shop Guam’s cutting-edge iBeacon technology that will alert local residents and visitors using the Shop Guam app when they are near local merchants.

Additionally, a new feature that will debut during the e-Festival will be the utilization of QR codes on the mobile app. Each Shop Guam offer during the winter season will have a unique QR code that will be scanned by merchants for shoppers to redeem the offer.

“When shopping or exploring Guam’s activities, our Shop Guam app is the way to go,” said GVB Director of Global Marketing Pilar Laguaña. “While the campaign is now offered throughout the year, the e-festival is special and will have many incentives for businesses to create and promote offers during the winter season. We’re also inviting Shop Guam ambassadors from our different source markets to generate more presence and value for our participating GVB members.”

During the e-festival period, generating and promoting offers on the Shop Guam app are complimentary to GVB members, while non-members will have to pay a fee. Additionally, GVB will also launch a user-generated content (UGC) campaign to promote the 2018 Shop Guam e-Festival. Working hand-in-hand with the GVB #instaGuam campaign, local shoppers and travelers will be encouraged to share their shopping and adventure experiences on-island by creating instant stories and tagging GVB social media channels to be shared globally.

The Shop Guam e-Festival in 2017 boasted over 300 offers from over 190 different merchants. The campaign generated over $16.6 million USD in media exposure globally, significantly elevating and raising awareness for the Guam brand. The Shop Guam e-Festival mobile app also received the 2017 Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award for the best mobile app category.
