Smartphone provider OPPO took the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2015 by storm after it partnered with Vietnam-based designer Ly Qui Khanh. Khanh showcased the opening outfit based on the design concept of the OPPO R5 as part of his Fall/Winter 2015 collection, “The Last Petal”.

This marks the second time that OPPO presented its design and products to audiences in the United States after the CES 2015 in Las Vegas held last January. This is also the first time for the brand to share its unique design concepts to media and key leaders in the fashion industry.

Sky Li, Vice President of OPPO and Managing Director of International Mobile Business, commented on this cooperation, “OPPO is dedicated to delivering an inimitable experience through meticulous design and smart technology to worldwide consumers. We care a lot about and have invested heavily in design and quality, so we are very pleased to see that Ly Qui Khanh shares similar ideals with OPPO, and has successfully built up his reputation by pursuing his ideals at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. ”

Mr. Ly Qui Khanh is one of the few Asian designers who were invited to take part in this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. From a very young age, he has gained a keen sense for textile arts and fashion in particular and made a name for himself after only five years in the industry. His brand, LQK, is already extremely popular amongst celebrities, movie stars, singers, and supermodels throughout Southeast Asia.

“OPPO is a kind of fashion pioneer in the technology arena in the sense that they incorporate a real sense of organic aestheticism into their products, balancing naturalistic designs with a dedication towards the consumer’s needs.” Khanh said regarding the inspiration of the opening outfit.

He adds, “When I first saw the OPPO R5, I was inspired by something that appears so delicate and thin, like the wings of a cicada, yet which has the robustness of steel. It reminds me of flower petals that blossom proudly in winter -- soft as they appear to be, they make for a powerful symbol of transition between two seasons.”

Named “The Last Petal”, Khanh wanted his 2015 F/W collection to remind that beauty always exists, even in places that go beyond what we would define as “extreme”.

The OPPO R5 measures at a staggering 4.85mm. Despite its minimalist build, it perfectly integrates its ultra-thin build with first class craftsmanship. It has a micro-arc frame and a stainless steel back cover which are three and five times stronger than normal aluminum alloy respectively.

Khanh’s OPPO R5 design concept was presented during the famous amfAR charity show.

“The Last Petal” collection was inspired by classical 19th century European apparels and adopted premium fabrics, exquisite tailoring lines, and careful approaches—elements which are all intertwined with the OPPO logic. Vietnam’s 2013 Next Top Model winner Mau Thanh Thuy wore the opening outfit. Other international supermodels also graced the runway for Khanh’s collection.
