OPPO, in collaboration with Discovery, has officially unveiled the third edition of its global storytelling initiative, Culture in a Shot, marking another year of celebrating how people experience and express culture in today’s fast-moving, connected world.
For 2026, the campaign introduces a new chapter with the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, designed to empower emerging creators worldwide. Anchored on the theme “Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment,” the initiative continues its evolution as a global platform that explores culture not just as heritage, but as something actively lived, shaped, and shared every day.
According to Ling Liu, OPPO Overseas CMO, culture is something people continuously build through everyday experiences. “Culture is not only something we inherit, it is something we actively shape through how we live, connect, and express ourselves,” Liu said. “With Culture in a Shot, we aim to present culture as a living, evolving presence, and to enable more people to engage with it in their own ways.”
Culture as a Living, Everyday Story
Building on previous editions, Portraits of Legacy and Celebrate the Moment, this year’s theme highlights a shift in how culture is understood. Rather than being confined to tradition or geography, culture today is constantly evolving through everyday interactions, from short-form videos and fashion to food and digital storytelling.
In this new creative landscape, younger generations are not just observers of culture, they are active participants shaping it in real time. Through their lenses, culture becomes more immediate, diverse, and personal, reflecting how people live, connect, and share their identities today.
Filmmaker Accelerator: Empowering the Next Generation of Storytellers
At the heart of this year’s program is the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, jointly developed by OPPO and Discovery. The initiative is built to support emerging global creators in crafting culturally inspired stories with a cinematic approach.
Participants will receive end-to-end mentorship covering storytelling, production, filming techniques, and post-production. Alongside this guidance, selected creators will also receive grants and access to OPPO’s latest smartphone technology to help bring their creative visions to life.
Completed works will be featured under the Culture in a Shot platform and showcased on the OPPO x Discovery collaboration website, giving creators greater global exposure.
Additionally, participants in the Super Video category of the OPPO Photography Awards 2026 may be invited to join the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, further expanding opportunities for emerging talent.
Global Stories, Local Voices
The 2026 edition also continues its global cultural journey with new content developed in collaboration with Discovery, starting in Singapore. This year’s focus explores how Peranakan cuisine is being reimagined in modern-day life, blending heritage with contemporary expression.
To encourage wider participation, OPPO is also expanding its OPPO Culture Challenge, inviting users worldwide to capture and share cultural moments inspired by festivals and everyday life. Entries can be posted on TikTok using the hashtag #OPPOCultureChallenge, allowing everyday creators to contribute to a global storytelling movement.
With a presence in more than 90 countries and regions, Culture in a Shot has become a key part of OPPO’s global identity. Through this initiative, OPPO and Discovery continue to highlight culture as something that is constantly evolving, shaped by creativity, participation, and connection. As more people share their perspectives, they don’t just observe culture, they help define it, making every moment part of a larger, evolving story.
