Epson launches the EF-51, a 4K hybrid projector with HDR, Dolby Audio, smart lighting, and gaming-ready features. A new addition to Epson’s growing lineup of home entertainment devices.
Epson has officially introduced the EF-51 4K smart projector in the Chinese market. Now available on JD.com for 4099 yuan (approximately $568), the EF-51 is designed as a hybrid entertainment device, combining high-resolution projection technology with customizable ambient lighting. With this model, Epson continues to expand its offerings in the home entertainment space, targeting users who want both performance and versatility in a single setup.

At the core of the EF-51 is Epson’s proprietary Triple Core Engine paired with a three-chip, three-color 3LCD architecture. This setup delivers full native 4K resolution and supports HDR content for enhanced contrast and richer detail. The projector reaches up to 700 lumens of brightness and features a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, achieved through precise frame-by-frame image processing across 512 contrast zones. To support smooth and vivid visuals, the EF-51 also offers 10-bit color depth, capable of displaying over 1.07 billion colors.

Epson has integrated a light energy recycling system in this model, a feature that improves overall brightness uniformity and helps reduce image noise. The company states that this system allows the EF-51 to achieve a brightness uniformity rate of 97.3%, ensuring consistent image quality across the entire projection surface, from edge to edge.
Beyond its display capabilities, the EF-51 includes built-in ambient lighting that functions even when the projector is powered off. This ambient light system is customizable through tap-sensitive controls located on the device or through Epson’s companion mobile app. Users can modify the color, brightness, and effects of the lighting, and also use the app to create interactive photo walls and set personalized wallpapers for their home spaces.

In terms of usability, the EF-51 supports automatic keystone correction, wall detection, and frame alignment, making setup simple regardless of where it's placed. The projector can scale images up to 100 inches and includes a motorized stand that rotates 180 degrees horizontally and tilts 105 degrees vertically, allowing for flexible placement and viewing angles in any room.

For gaming, the EF-51 comes with features like Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and motion interpolation, which help deliver smoother 4K gameplay with reduced lag. These features make it a solid choice for users who want one device for both movies and interactive content.

Audio is handled by dual 6W stereo speakers, tuned by audio professionals and enhanced with Dolby Audio support. Internally, the projector runs on an MT9 chipset, backed by 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It includes HDMI, USB, and audio ports for connecting external devices and supports voice control through an AI assistant.

Even with all its functionality, the EF-51 maintains quiet operation with a noise level of just 23dB. It also meets China’s Level 2 energy efficiency standards, offering lower power consumption for everyday use.
