Reason why I NOW love Money Heist. La Casa De Papel

So me and the boys got into a semi-deep discussion about the Money Heist series on Netflix. They say it's good, I said otherwise. It started when he said that he's losing sleep watching Netflix, I asked why. "La Casa De Papel" he responded.

La Casa De Papel or Money Heist (poorly translated to English), is a series in Netflix led by a criminal mastermind who goes by "The Professor" (who apparently is so bright that he fools the government and special forces easily) has a plan to pull off the biggest heist in recorded history -- to print billions of euros in the Royal Mint of Spain. To help him carry out the ambitious plan, he recruits eight people with certain abilities and who have nothing to lose. The group of thieves takes hostages to aid in their negotiations with the authorities, who strategize to come up with a way to capture The Professor. As more time elapses, the robbers prepare for a showdown with the police.

See, my issue with La Casa De Papel is nothing too technical or reviewed professionally. I guess there are just some things that didn't sit well with me when I watched the first season.

Here are the reasons why at first I didn't like it.

  • Overrated (now, not before)
  • Highly unrealistic (this covers a lot. From characters to plots & outcomes)
  • The heist, is not a heist.
  • Poor sound design
  • Unnecessarily overhyped
  • Gimmicky

Badass guys as the lead characters, the sex, the heist, the kill-just-to-kill-someone I guess wasn't enough to get me to jump into the hype train. Now while that didn't go deep into the details, I know some will understand. Like how I feel when people wear those masks and red jumpsuits, I just roll my eyes infinitely.

The show I know was underrated for a long time until Netflix picked it up to sponsor the next few seasons, I think that it was perfect timing that got Money Heist the popular status it has now. If lockdown didn't happen and people didn't have a lot of spare time, the result could have been different.

My friends, like the twists and the strategy the group of robbers comes up with. They like the backstory of the characters which reminds them of Jennifer Garner's 'Alias' series before. While espionage and treason are exciting, La Casa De Papel didn't have that effect on me. Maybe because I didn't enjoy that first season, they say it has improved a lot since then. Maybe it did.

I may be wrong to say the things I said on why I didn't like the show, or maybe they already convinced me already and I just didn't want to admit it. So here we go, reasons why I now I like the show now.
