I was part of the few selected online media bloggers to witness the King & I sneak peek. Well, there were actually a lot of people there at the Newport Performing Arts Theater when I arrived there and actually thought it was a dress rehearsal or something. Anyways, RWManila invited us so there we were.
As the curtain was close, I was anxious to see what will be unveiled as the curtains open. I do remember the time of the Sound of Music sneak peek / press conference. I was excited to see what they would to with the set and I wasn't disappointed. It was beautiful. The set was elaborate and really beautiful set pieces
King & I has been staged so many times and this well beloved classic musical in Broadway and West End is now here at Manila's primary venue for superb world-class entertainment, Resorts World Manila. Offering its third installment after "KAOS" and the victory of the longest running Filipino production of a Broadway musical “The Sound of Music” they now offer Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King And I set to start production on September 15, the mega-musical will still be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) within RWM’s Newport Mall.
Features a stellar all-Filipino cast led by the theatre legend Leo Tavarro Valdez, and the beautiful stage great Monique Wilson, who plays King Mongkut and Anna.
The King & I is directed by the three-time Aliw Awardee for Best Stage Director, Mr. Freddie Santos, now that will surely get the attention of fans and theater lovers. Surely he will captivate us as he brings life to the dazzling and majestic Kingdom of Siam in this modern day and age.
You might ask who would add colors to the people of Siam? another stellar member of the creative team is Mr. Rajo Laurel who be doing the stunning dresses of Anna and the royal costumes of the King of Siam. Who better to do it than one of the most notable and celebrated fashion designers in the Philippines. Known locally and internationally for his crème de la crème fashion collections.
Adding music to the dance is the complementing the dreamy scoring courtesy of the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Rodel Colmenar and will be giving us the music to the enthralling and moving story of “The King and I” so we can sing along with the much-loved original soundtrack such as “Getting to Know You”, “Hello Young Lovers”, and “Shall we Dance?”
