In today’s fast-evolving healthcare landscape, reliable technology is becoming just as important as skilled medical professionals. Recognizing this, Lenovo has partnered with Asian Hospital and Medical Center to strengthen healthcare delivery through a standardized and dependable PC infrastructure—helping doctors and nurses work more efficiently while improving the patient experience.
Located in southern Metro Manila, Asian Hospital is one of the largest and most advanced facilities under the Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings, Inc. (MPH) network, which operates nearly 30 hospitals nationwide. The partnership forms part of the group’s broader initiative to unify and modernize PC systems across its healthcare institutions.
At the center of this digital transformation is Frank N. Vibar, Chief Information Officer of Asian Hospital, who oversees the hospital’s hospital information systems (HIS), electronic medical records (EMR), network infrastructure, and end-user computing devices.
“Our mandate is not just to digitize,” shares Vibar. “Our mandate is to ensure that every piece of technology we deploy ultimately makes it easier for our clinicians to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.”
Fixing Technology Issues That Impact Patient Care
Before standardizing its systems, Asian Hospital used devices from several different brands. This created inconsistencies in performance, with doctors and nurses occasionally experiencing slowdowns, system crashes, and unexpected shutdowns—issues that could interrupt medical workflows.
These problems weren’t rare either. Device-related issues generated more than 200 IT support calls each month, often requiring urgent intervention from the hospital’s IT team just to keep operations running smoothly.
“In a hospital environment, a failing laptop is more than just an inconvenience—it can directly affect patient care,” explains Vibar. “If a doctor is documenting a diagnosis or reviewing patient data and the device crashes, it disrupts the entire care process.”
The hospital realized it needed a more stable and reliable technology partner—one capable of supporting the demanding environment of modern healthcare.
A Strategic Partnership for Stability and Performance
After evaluating its options, Asian Hospital chose Lenovo as its technology partner due to the company’s reputation for reliability, enterprise-grade support, and robust product ecosystem.
“We needed a partner that could provide stability, consistency, and reliability,” Vibar explains. “Lenovo gave us the confidence that we could standardize our devices without sacrificing performance.”
Working closely together, the hospital’s IT team and Lenovo mapped specific device types to different roles and workflows. Devices were carefully assigned to departments such as finance, human resources, nurse stations, emergency rooms, and clinical areas requiring barcode scanning for closed-loop medication management.
“We know our workflow and Lenovo knows its products,” Vibar says. “By collaborating on user profiles and device types, we ensured that every device deployed provides real value to the user.”
From 200 Monthly Issues to Nearly Zero
The impact of the transition was immediate and measurable. As older devices were gradually replaced with Lenovo units, monthly incident reports dropped dramatically from more than 200 IT tickets to almost zero in Lenovo-equipped areas.
“As we replaced legacy devices with Lenovo, complaints from doctors and nurses about performance and breakdowns dropped dramatically,” says Vibar. “That means smoother access to our hospital information system and electronic medical records and ultimately better continuity of patient care.”
Doctors and nurses also reported faster workflows and more stable system access, allowing them to focus more on patients instead of technical issues.
With endpoint problems nearly eliminated, the hospital’s IT team has also been able to shift its attention toward more strategic priorities such as cybersecurity, networking, data analytics, and AI integration. Meanwhile, additional Lenovo units have been deployed in high-demand areas like the Emergency Room to further improve efficiency.
Clinicians themselves have noticed the difference, with many now proactively requesting the replacement of older devices with Lenovo units, a strong sign of confidence in the new standardized infrastructure.
Building the Future of Smart Healthcare in the Philippines
As part of the Metro Pacific Hospitals Group, Asian Hospital continues to pursue its vision of becoming a flagship smart hospital—both within the organization and across the Philippine healthcare industry.
“Asian Hospital aims to be a flagship smart hospital for our group and for the Philippines,” Vibar affirms. “We want to keep Filipino patients from having to go abroad for care while also attracting patients from other countries.”
With Lenovo as a long-term strategic partner, the hospital is well-positioned to explore new healthcare technologies and pilot innovations already proven in hospitals abroad.
“If Lenovo has hospital use cases that are already tried and tested elsewhere, bring them here and we will help test them,” Vibar adds. “If a technology can improve healthcare delivery and patient care, we are ready to adopt it.”
Through this collaboration, Lenovo and Asian Hospital are helping build a more reliable, technology-enabled healthcare system, one that ultimately benefits both medical professionals and Filipino patients.
