I had a great time checking out the launch for the new EastWest BizAccess Visa Debit Card over at Oh My French in Makati. Seriously, it was so much better than the typical corporate event. It felt really focused on the actual people running businesses here.
The Best Part: Meeting the SMEs Upstairs
The formal presentation was informative, sure, but the best part was easily the setup upstairs on the second floor. EastWest basically turned the space into a showcase for the very people they want to help. Instead of just talking about small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), they brought in successful client businesses to host the booths.
I got to walk around and chat with the teams behind so many different ventures. It was cool to see that wide variety of industries all supported by the bank, including the fragrance brand Aficionado, the trusted auto experts at Bosch Car Service, the coffee suppliers at Colombo Merchant Philippines, the eco-friendly Kenzo and Kloe's Nature Farm, and the snack-food favorite, Nacho King. Seeing those established companies—who are clients—proved that EastWest is genuinely connected to the market. Plus, visiting all their booths and chatting with them meant scoring some awesome freebies! It was a fun, interactive way to cap off the afternoon.
Why the BizAccess Card Actually Matters
My big takeaway is that this new BizAccess Visa Debit Card, launched in partnership with Visa, is a solution designed for the messiness of running a small business. As an entrepreneur, you know how easily business funds and personal money can get mixed up—it’s a nightmare for accounting. This card, which connects to a dedicated BizAccess Checking Account (requiring a minimum balance of Php 25,000), is designed to solve exactly that problem.
As EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo put it, it's not just a card; it's a business partner built for control and simplicity:
- Team Control: This is huge. You can issue up to ten cards to staff and manage all your team’s expenses—from supplier payments to petty cash—right from that single account. It cuts down on the paperwork and the headache.
- Total Digital Command: Everything is managed through the EasyBiz Online Business Banking platform. This digital access means you can pay government fees (via eGov) and corporate bills, track transactions in real-time, and, crucially, lock and unlock the card instantly for security.
- Real Perks: They also threw in perks like travel accident insurance and, crucially, waived over-the-counter fees for deposits and withdrawals, which can be a real cost-saver for smaller operations.
Ultimately, EastWest is giving entrepreneurs a way to spend less time on tedious administration and more time focusing on making their business grow—exactly like the success stories I saw upstairs. It made the entire launch feel super relevant and practical.
