Explore Synology’s latest high-performance NAS: the DS925+ and its DX525 expansion unit. Learn how this compact yet scalable storage solution delivers fast speeds, seamless backups, and smart features for creative professionals, small offices, and home users.
Synology has officially introduced the DiskStation DS925+ along with its expansion companion, the DX525, offering a powerful yet compact storage solution built for modern digital lifestyles. Whether you're a content creator managing high-resolution media, a small business needing reliable backup systems, or simply a home user with growing storage needs, this new release from Synology brings together performance, scalability, and smart features in a space-efficient design.

The Synology DS925+ is engineered to handle demanding tasks like large file transfers, multi-device backups, and managing media libraries. With dual 2.5GbE ports and two M.2 NVMe slots, it delivers fast data access and supports SSD caching or the creation of an all-flash storage pool. Compared to its predecessor, this model brings impressive performance improvements—149% faster SMB downloads, 150% faster uploads, 131% faster reads, and 150% faster writes. This makes it ideal for users who rely on efficient file access and sharing, such as photographers, video editors, and remote workers.
One of the standout features of the DS925+ is its ability to scale. Out of the box, it provides five drive bays, but when connected to the newly launched DX525 expansion unit, the total capacity expands to nine bays. This allows users to store up to 180TB of raw data, offering enough space for everything from years of family photos to complex creative projects or business archives.

Built with reliability in mind, the DS925+ is optimized for use with Synology’s Plus Series hard drives. These drives undergo over 7,000 hours of testing to meet performance and durability standards, ensuring they’re ready for long-term use. To maintain the system's stability and consistent performance, Synology requires that installations use drives from its approved compatibility list, as managed by the DiskStation Manager (DSM).

Speaking of DSM, this operating system is at the core of what makes the DS925+ a smart investment. With Synology Drive, users can turn the NAS into a private cloud, allowing access to files from anywhere while keeping full control over their data. The Active Backup Suite offers flexible options for backing up PCs, Macs, virtual machines, and even cloud services, making recovery easy when something goes wrong. For those interested in security, the built-in Surveillance Station supports over 8,000 camera models through the ONVIF protocol, allowing users to set up a customized video monitoring system for their home or office.

The DS925+ and DX525 are set to hit the market on June 4, 2025, and will be available through Synology’s partner and reseller network. If you're looking to upgrade your home or office storage with something that's fast, secure, and expandable, this new Synology solution might be exactly what you need.
