Huawei Watch 3 Unboxing & First Impressions

By July 26, 2021 , , , , , , , , , , , ,

There's a lot of smartwatches already in the market and almost all of them offer the same thing. Huawei has been in the smart wearables game for a while even before the others started. Huawei has been the benchmark for offering a quality smartwatch made with the best materials packed with a lot of features.

I'm a big fan of the brand and products they make. I love the quality and how they design their products. As you can tell by the photo, I have the Huawei FreeBuds Studio, the Huawei P40 Pro, and the Huawei MatePad Pro in the background. The Huawei smart wearable that I wear day to day would be the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. So I'm really excited about the launch of this Huawei Watch 3.

Our team was lucky to be able to get our hands on the Huawei Watch 3 for an unboxing so let's get started.

Upon opening the box, the one that stood out for me is the crown. I guess you could say that it's significantly bigger than the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. What used to be another crown-looking button on the side of the previous smartwatches is not clearly a button.

Some subtle details on the crown as you can see are engraved Huawei Watch. Classy touch. And because the crown is a little bigger, it feels good being able to twist and turn which I thought at first didn't do anything but apparently there is a purpose for it. The button below the crown is the workout mode button. This gives you easy access to a lot of the different workout courses, and I mean a lot!

Inside the box, you get the usual user guide, start guide, safety information, warranty card, the watch, and the charger. What's different about this one is that the cable and charger are one already. Compared to the previous ones when it's separate. I would prefer the latter so that I may be able to use the cable for my phone also. You can also charge the smartwatch wirelessly. If you have a wireless power bank, a reverse wireless charge on your tablet or on your phone, it can work!
The strap also feels a bit different. This one is smoother on the edges. In the PH, only the black-strap variant will be available. The strap is a fluoroelastomer band which is a fluorocarbon-based synthetic rubber that generally has wide chemical resistance.
Now, talking about sensors, this one has around 7 sensors in this smartwatch. Acceleration sensor, Gyro sensor, Geomagnetic sensor, Optical Heart Rate sensor, Ambient light sensor, barometric pressure sensor, temperature sensor. Quite a lot and I'm actually not complaining.

The Huawei Watch 3 has 16GB internal storage and 2GB internal RAM enough to run the different applications in the watch. Now, the available capacity may be less its value because the system software will take up part of the space.
Speaking of the system, the Huawei Watch 3 runs in HarmonyOS 2. This is an operating system oriented to the era of Internet of Everything. This creates a new smart experience on the wrist and turning the smartwatch into an interaction, smart, and health center. This new smartwatch from Huawei will give you a fast interactive response, comprehensive control, and a whole new different experience.

Setting up the watch is easy. Make sure you have the Huawei Health APP. Open the app, then scan the QR code. Follow the onscreen instructions and finish the pair. If you have a Huawei phone, your smartphone would be able to detect it and guide you through the setup.

But even before talk about other features, we haven't really talked about the design of this smartwatch. The Huawei Watch 3 is a Heavy-duty titanium watch body but still has that timeless design. Very durable body and extremely tough material but also lightweight.
There's just a lot to mention with the design. The Huawei Watch 3 has an ultra-curved 3D glass that has gone through over four hours of precision polishing and anti-fingerprint vacuum nano-coating. This process is not only bright but also scratch-resistant and finger-print-proof. Just by the feel of it, you're assured of the quality and craftsmanship that goes into creating this watch. The execution, the polishing, the beautiful metallic surface is highly comparable to those found on traditional luxury watches.

One thing that is also cool about the Huawei Watch series is their execution on their Watch faces. Stocked with a lot of powerful hardware to provide a whole new informative, gaming, and personalized animated watch faces to give that unique look on your Huawei Watch 3. personalize it the way you want it.

There's also a feature where you can create your own watch face. Personalize it with your own favorite photo and also a few gaming watch face where user can have more fun on their spare time playing pinball. Other watch faces are available in the watch face market to choose from including business, fashion, simplicity, cartoon, and fun.

One thing that is also new here is the eSIM feature. This lets you connect independently without your smartphone. This allows you to make use of your watch as your standalone communication system. For example in scenarios like running, skateboarding, rock climbing, or swimming where it is inconvenient to bring along your phone. The Huawei Watch 3 is addressing that pain point and what we thought would be our forever concern, is no longer an issue. When one activates the eSIM service on their phone, the users can use the same phone number on the Huawei Watch 3. So even if your mobile phone runs out of battery, you can still use the Huawei Watch 3 for real-time communications and so much more!
The HUAWEI WATCH 3 can achieve 3-day long battery life in smart mode, and 14 days in ultra-long battery life mode. Longer battery life ensures that users can wear it all day, use it continuously, and use it all the time even during sleep. Whether users are wearing it for workouts, meetings, or sleeping, HUAWEI WATCH 3 is always connected and offers support.

We mentioned the workouts earlier, the HUAWEI WATCH 3 has 100+ workout modes catering to all types of users. It includes 17 professional workout modes, 12 outdoor workouts (running, walking, mountain climbing, hiking, cross-country running, cycling, open water swimming, triathlon, skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and golf driving range) with 7 indoor workouts (walking, running, cycling, pool swimming, free training, elliptical machine, and rowing machine). There are so many sports here that whatever it is, I'm pretty sure at least one it will be here.

That is it for the quick unboxing and first impression of the Huawei Watch 3. I really think that this would be a nice option for those who want a level up from their sports bands or looking at their first smartwatch. I will share more in my next post and the full review of this smartwatch.
