VinFast EV Surge: How Vietnam’s 3,520-Order Day Signals a Turning Point for the Philippines

In the fast-paced world of automobiles, big sales days are often tied to major promos, holiday rushes, or aggressive discounts. But what happens when demand simply… happens?

That’s exactly what unfolded for VinFast on March 28, 2026, when the brand processed an impressive 3,520 electric vehicle (EV) orders in a single Saturday in Vietnam, without a major sales event or promotional push driving the surge. While the milestone took place in its home market, it offers a compelling lens into what a similar moment could eventually look like in emerging EV markets like the Philippines.

Instead of a typical spike tied to a limited-time offer, the orders came in steadily throughout the day, averaging about 146 vehicles per hour, or roughly one vehicle every 25 seconds. By the end of the day, all orders had been processed, with units ready to roll out of the factory highlighting not just strong consumer interest, but a system built to handle it.
While rising global fuel prices in early March 2026 likely nudged more drivers to reconsider their options, moments like this don’t happen overnight. They’re the result of something deeper: a lifestyle shift supported by the right ecosystem.

In Vietnam, VinFast has spent years building that ecosystem from expanding charging infrastructure and strengthening service networks to introducing ownership policies that make switching to EVs less intimidating. Incentives like financial support for those transitioning from gasoline vehicles and extended free charging programs have made EV ownership feel not just possible, but practical.

A major part of this effort is powered by V-Green, which has mapped out an ambitious network of 150,000 charging ports across 34 provinces and cities. To make long drives as convenient as city commutes, 99 ultra-fast charging hubs (rated at 150 kW) are also being deployed along key highways.

When all these elements come together, something shifts. Demand no longer needs to be artificially triggered, it becomes a natural outcome of a system that works seamlessly with everyday life.

This same vision is now beginning to take shape in the Philippines.

Rather than focusing solely on selling vehicles, VinFast is laying the groundwork for long-term EV adoption. Flexible ownership options, such as battery subscription models and resale value guarantees, are designed to make EV ownership more accessible and predictable for Filipino drivers.

At the same time, operating costs are being addressed through initiatives like free charging at V-Green stations until March 31, 2029, helping remove one of the most immediate concerns for those considering the switch.

As charging stations and service networks continue to expand locally, the experience of owning an EV is gradually becoming more seamless, echoing how gas stations once enabled the widespread adoption of gasoline-powered vehicles.

If Vietnam’s recent milestone is any indication, the Philippines may simply be waiting for its own moment when the infrastructure is ready, the barriers are lower, and the decision to go electric feels less like a leap and more like the natural next step.
