Xiaomi officially introduces the Smart Home Display 8 Gimbal Edition, combining an 8-inch display, a 5MP PTZ camera with night vision, AI voice control, and seamless smart home connectivity.
Xiaomi has officially launched its latest innovation in the smart home segment, the Xiaomi Smart Home Display 8 Gimbal Edition. Priced at 699 yuan (around USD $96 / PHP 5,500), the device debuted in China and is the first in Xiaomi’s lineup to feature an integrated pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera, making it both a home security tool and a multifunctional smart display.
At the heart of this new device is its 5-megapixel gimbal camera. Unlike fixed cameras, this unit is mounted on top of the display and can rotate a full 360 degrees, offering a more comprehensive view of the room. It also tilts vertically up to 30 degrees, allowing users to adjust angles depending on their space. With a resolution sharp enough to provide clear 3K visuals, the camera delivers detailed daytime monitoring while its 940nm infrared fill lights ensure reliable night vision up to 10 meters, perfect for keeping an eye on your home even in complete darkness.
Beyond security, the 8-inch smart display enhances everyday living. It’s not just designed for monitoring but also for family use. Xiaomi has tailored the interface to suit various needs, from infant monitoring and educational content for children to productivity tools for adults and even health reminders for seniors. This makes it more than just a security device, it serves as a versatile smart home hub.
The device also integrates Super Xiao AI, Xiaomi’s advanced voice assistant that supports natural, multi-round conversations. With this feature, users can control smart devices, ask questions, or receive tailored assistance for different scenarios at home. This AI-driven interaction adds convenience and makes the display feel like a true household companion.
In terms of connectivity, the Smart Home Display 8 Gimbal Edition is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 and Xiaomi Mesh 2.0, ensuring smooth and reliable integration with the wider Xiaomi ecosystem. It also supports Xiaomi MiaoBo and the latest smart home protocols, making it future-ready for expanding setups.
For now, the Smart Home Display 8 Gimbal Edition is exclusively available in China. While Xiaomi has an extensive global reach, there’s no confirmation yet if this model will officially launch in international markets, including the Philippines. However, with its mix of security, entertainment, and AI-powered features, it’s clear that this device represents Xiaomi’s vision of the future of smart homes.
