Affordable Comfort Food at Salo BGC

By July 01, 2014 , ,

Good food is something we are willing to splurge on. However, you cannot always indulge everyday, not when you work on a budget. But what if you're trapped in BGC? Where to go for affordable food and drinks? Well, there is one place one can go to without resorting to the usual fast food offers.

You will find SALO inside the Fort Strip which just opened in May 2014. By its name, it already welcomes you to an array of comforting Filipino favorites which you can enjoy for very reasonable and budget friendly prices!

What is interesting is how chefs Benjo Tuason and Justin David created the menu which gives a new twists on familiar dishes. We were happy to sample some on these one fine Saturday afternoon.

To whet our appetites, we were with treated to a platter of pulutan items such as fried fish balls, kamote chips, crispy kang kong and, our personal fave, crispy chicken skin.

Another appetizer star was the Sisig. Yum!

and the Sinuglaw. Sinuglaw is a dish composed of grilled pork belly and fish ceviche. This can be considered as a main dish or an appetizer,

This was immediately followed by the "Hangover" line up, which effectively cures a hangover. Each one is good but my personal favorite is the Longaburger Extra which has two patties of sweet garlicky longganisa and egg between two buns. The goodness of it instantly wakes you up!

They also offer a mean Goto which comforts anyone's hungry tummy. (Insert photo).

For lunch, there are an array of rice bowls to choose from. From Tapsilog to the surprising Tuyosilog, they're all good it won't be easy to choose. Sometimes in life, all you need is tuyo to make your day.

In case you don't mind a little fat an cholesterol in your body, their Lechon belly, Aligue Rice and Gising Gising are some of the dishes worth indulging for. Better to be with friend or family when you decide to order these. It may not be wise to finish them alone. Having tried them all, I can guarantee you can in one sitting.

Bistek Tagalog (sharing) - P 225.00

Don't forget to finish every meal with Buko pandan or leche flan.

Salo is also a perfect place to spend after work hours with friends and office mates. They also serve your favorite alcoholic drinks and cocktails in very affordable prices.

You will see that the drinks at SALO are one of, if not the most affordable at BGC!

You gotta love their Sago't Gulaman for only P 40.00 (Two please!)

So when in BGC, forget about going to expensive restaurants. Sometimes, all we all need is to go to what is comfortable and familiar.
