Libera Christmas Concert: Incomparable Angelic Voices

0
Due to popular demand, Libera is coming back to Manila for a Christmas concert. The world-renowned vocal band will be performing on October 25 at the PICC Plenary Hall and on October 28 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Libera went to the Philippines for the first time last October 2009 and performed sold-out concerts in Manila and Cebu. Libera’s repertoire included “Orinoco Flow” by Enya, in reference to the island of Cebu, and “Bayan Ko,” the unofficial anthem of the EDSA Revolution, which got the boys a standing ovation and left audiences amazed and mystified by their divine voices.

The distinct sound of Libera comes from the blending of voices of its members with some as young as seven. Their heavenly music varies from classical pieces of Beethoven, Debussy, Pachelbel and other masters to Gregorian chants and Latin rite liturgies. Among the group’s most popular songs include “Always With You,” “Far Away,” “Going Home,” “How Can I Keep from Singing,” “Sing Forever,” “Ave Maria,” “Sanctus” and “Adoramus,” among others.

The boys who make up the vocal band Libera have been described as “normal” and “ordinary.” However, as their recordings and performances demonstrate, the music they produce is truly extraordinary. With shimmering, mystical chords and ecstatic harmonies, they are unlike any other group you have ever heard. These are truly sounds to lift the soul.

Libera is nothing like any other boy band in the music scene today. The chart-topping London boys choir is recognized around the world and their ethereal music is praised for sounding classic and modern at the same time.

The singers of Libera who are aged seven to sixteen attend many different local schools in South London and come from a variety of backgrounds. Although they are boys and they sing, they do not think of themselves as choir boys, but rather as an alternative kind of boy band.

In 2008, they held a US Tour where they staged astounding performances at the “Kennedy Center Honors” in Washington, DC and in the “Concert of Hope” offered by Pope Benedict XVI in New York. The choir also did highly-acclaimed concerts in Japan and South Korea and had performed with international artists like Bjork, Elton John, and Lucianno Pavarotti.
