Free Comic Book Day is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. In the Philippines Free Comic Book Day was not officially known until a local comic shop known as Comic Odyssey started the tradition back in May 2007.
Bearing their mission in mind, Publishers produce special edition comics geared to attracting new non-comic readers. This also introduce people back to reading as in the age of the internet and video games rarely you see people read. The campaign is bring back people into reading and one of the alternative to invite them in this promotional event
